In my excitement, I had forgotten that I had seen the first grasshopper of the season on April Fool’s Day. I hadn’t seen any grasshoppers since so I was lulled into a false sense of safety. That is—until we started walking out into the fields by the school.
I heard the familiar menacing whizz-pop of a grasshopper jumping behind me. I rushed up next to Coco Monkey, hoping that she would be able to deflect them. The grasshoppers had other ideas. One jumped up in between me and her. It almost landed on me. I did the grasshopper fear dance, while the rest of the class laughed.
It is not good that everyone knows I am afraid of grasshoppers. I am sure Little Ape will find out and eventually tease me with them. The only good thing about this, is that I am not as afraid of them as I was last summer. My secret fear of moths makes the grasshoppers tolerable. I am trying to bribe the class with candy so they won’t tell Little Ape. I hope it works!
