I didn't think I'd be able to make it through the week, but I did. Friday afternoon can't come soon enough!
My first day of school was long. I knew it wouldn't be such a bad day because I saw a Praying Mantis on a fence on the way to school. The first day involved Mr. Howler telling us what not to do and what supplies to get. We had recess and lunch, which were the best parts of the day. Mama Monkey was a bit surprised at the amount of supplies Mr. Howler asked us to bring.
Today was a real school day. On the way to school, I saw a dragonfly. I really like dragonflies but I guess it wasn't a good omen because we actually had lessons. I'm very glad we didn't have homework today. The other thing about today was that I had to go to gym. They had us on the butt scooters racing each other. I really don't like the butt scooters because if I don't run over my fingers, I run over my tail. Today I ran over my tail and it's all swollen now. The gym teacher, Spider Monkey, promised not to make us go on the butt scooters for a while so I feel better.
I went to the nurse and got my tail wrapped. She told me to put ice on it when I got home. Mama Monkey put a salve on it and some ice. She also re-wrapped my tail and now it feels better. Hopefully my tail will be back to normal in a few days. At least I won't have to race on the butt scooters for a while.
I tried to run and hide, but Mama Monkey found me and forced me to go to my room. I'll be going to bed early tonight because school starts tomorrow. Mama Monkey has already packed my lunch and I've gotten my backpack ready. I really wish summer didn't have to end. It's too warm to go back to school. We should be swimming in the river and chasing fireflies at night, not having to deal with mean kids like Little Ape and Orangutan. If I'm able make it through the entire day, I'll tell you how it went.
I woke up this morning looking like a cotton ball and I didn’t understand why. It was also so hot, that I wanted to go jump in the river right away. Mama Monkey saw me and started chuckling. I didn’t find it so funny and asked her why she was laughing at me.
Mama Monkey said that she let me get away with not getting my fuzz trimmed so I could see why I had to do it. This didn’t make sense to me at first, until I realized this was the first time I was bothered by the heat and the first time that my fuzz poofed out. I asked Mama Monkey why I was so poofy and she said it was the humidity. When I asked her what that was, she told me that it was how much moisture there was in the air.
When I told her I didn’t like the humidity, she suggested that I let her trim my fuzz. I reluctantly did because I was tired of being too fuzzy and feeling sticky. I felt much better afterwards. I don’t think I’m going to fight my summer trim anymore.
I was swimming in the river by myself this morning until Coco Monkey came by after lunch. We were having a great time until the thunderstorm showed up. (I still think thunder is caused by the Monkey god farting).
We scrambled into the tree house to escape the rain. We hind under the blankets because the thunder was so loud. Shortly after the storm started, we heard someone climbing up our tree.
Coco Monkey and I crawled over to the window to peek out to see who it was. I was hoping it wasn't Little Ape because I have no way of getting him off the tree. When we peeked out of the window we saw a pair of eyes looking back at us. We all screamed. The owner of the other pair of eyes was a grey squirrel and he was soaking wet.
He dropped the nuts he was carrying when we popped up in the window. I informed him that he was on the wrong tree. He said his name was Snuffly the squirrel and he couldn't tell if it was his tree because it was raining so hard. He pointed to the tree next to ours as his.
He said it was nice to meet us, then he scurried to the ground to pick up his food and he climbed up the other tree and hid inside. I'm glad we have such a nice neighbor.
Today was a fun day. Coco Monkey is staying over for two whole days and Mama Monkey said that we could sleep in the tree house. We played at the river all day and were sad when we had to go inside for dinner. When we were finished eating, Mama Monkey sent us up to the tree house with our snacks.
We were eating our snacks when we noticed the fireflies flitting around outside the windows. We weren't tired so we sneaked out of the tree house and followed them to the river. We tried to catch some and put them in a jar for extra light, but they were too fast.
Since we weren't able to catch any, we decided to go back into the tree house and go to sleep. As we snuggled into our hammocks, a few fireflies flew into the window and sat in the open jar we had on the desk. They turned on their butts and made a nightlight for us. It was a great end to the day.
